PSV recorded a big 4-3 win over title rivals Ajax. Martin Jol's side suffered defeat while champions AZ Alkmaar ran to a 6-0 win over RKC.

The new Superliga season got under way on Friday night with Leixões getting a point at home to Belenenses. FC Porto were held away to Pacos Ferreira while Benfica were also held at home to Marítimo. Sporting Lisbon were also held.
